Hello there, fellow bike riders! Today, I want to share with you one of the greatest experiences I’ve had lately – riding my bike with my son! I’ve always loved riding my bike (and I was actually really pretty fast), so when I had my son Miles, I knew that I would want to have him come enjoy bikes with me. Cycling is in his DNA! When he turned 1, his grandparents got him a bike trailer for his birthday. And now going on bike rides with my 15-month-old bundle of joy is one of the best parts of our week! I can’t wait to share all the happiness it’s brought us!

First off, let me introduce you to my little co-pilot Miles – a bubbly and very energetic 15-month-old who’s always up for a new adventure, especially when it’s outside. From the moment we strapped on our helmets and he settled into the cozy confines of his new bike trailer, I could see the excitement sparkling in those curious brown eyes.

As we hit the road, I was a little bit worried that he’d get bored or uncomfortable. But to my surprise, almost the entire way I could hear his cute little voice screaming “dada dada dada dada” behind me. He was just fine and I was relieved! In moments when he does get a little fussy on rides, I just turn on “Annie’s Song” by John Denver on repeat. We are in his top 0.05% of listeners! Miles is pretty proud of that.

Sadly, I don’t go as fast as I used to before I had Miles, but there are more important things than going fast. Life is more enjoyable when you take your time. Our little rides make both of us happy. THAT’s what matters. When speed is all that mattered to me, I rode an Orbea road bike and I had so many records on Strava! I don’t pull the bike trailer with my road bike (that thought just kinda scares me lol) so I use my old diamondback mountain bike! I love it actually! It’s a lot bigger and heavier than my road bike, but it works great!

Of course, safety always comes first, and I make sure to take all necessary precautions before setting out on our adventures. Helmets securely fastened, tires pumped up, and brakes checked so we’re ready to hit the road with confidence and peace of mind!

It makes me a little disappointed in the world when I go to the park or go outside and I hardly see anyone! I used to be outside all of the time as a kid and I want my family to experience the joy of nature! How lucky am I that I can have all of these precious moments with my cute son and the beautiful earth that God has created!? I will cherish the moments that I get to spend with Miles, because he’s going to grow up so fast!

If you’re looking for a dose of happiness and adventure, invest in a bike trailer and hit the road with your little one (this is the one that Miles got for his birthday). You won’t regret it! Trust me, the memories you’ll make together will be worth every pedal stroke.

Until next time, keep pedaling and spreading joy wherever life takes you! Happy trails, my friends! 🚲✨

Here’s some helpful steps to ensure you and your little one’s safety and enjoyment.

1) Get familiar with the equipment:

– Introduce your toddler to the bike trailer in a comfortable setting, like your backyard. That’s what we did with Miles (since he loves to be outside)

– Allow him to explore the trailer, the wheels, the insides, the seatbelts, so he can get used to it

2) Start Slow and Close to Home:

– I started with just a short ride down around my street, and then around my neighborhood.

– You can increase the distance as you go out more. You know what your toddler can handle (:

– Choose routes that are smooth and with minimal traffic. Keep in mind school zones! Those get really busy!

3) Make it fun:

– Miles always travels with his favorite stuffed animal and snacks! Bring your toddler’s favorite toys, snacks, or books to keep him entertained.

– Talk about where you and what you see! Take breaks whenever you want/need.

4) Practice Safety Measures:

– Always prioritize safety! Ensure that your toddler is securely strapped in and the harness is adjusted properly.

– Check the trailers tires, brakes, and your bikes tires and brakes! Pump up those tires, before every ride!

– Use safety gear, like helmets for both you and your little guy. Safety is cooler than your hair style 😉

5) Share the joy!

– Praise and encourage your little one throughout the ride and celebrate achievements. I was so excited when we made it 5 miles! Woot woot!

– After you get home, tell them how much fun you had spending time with them (:
